Class Description:
I am a fifth grade teacher at a relatively new charter school in San Diego county. Our school was developed to meet the educational, social, and emotional needs of refugees from war torn countries; predominately Somalia, Kenya, and Myanmar. We are a Title I school. All of my students are English learners and qualify for free breakfast and lunch. Our school provides tuition-free public education, while addressing the specific needs of each student. We have an intense math and language arts program. We are in the process of becoming a Core Knowledge school and all of our teachers have been trained with Systematic English Language Development

Needs:
My classroom is in dire need of technology including, but not limited to: computers, digital cameras, document camera, projector, printers, iPods, and pod cast systems.
My Philosophy:
I believe as an educator it is my duty to prepare my students to be active, contributing members of the society in which they live. With advances in technology taking place by the second, it is imperative for students to become familiar with technology on a daily basis. I believe it is in my students' best nature to support creativity in learning while introducing them to new concepts and ideas. What better way to bridge the two than through the use of technology in the classroom.
