My Philosophy:
Students of today are not prone to remaining in their desks for an entire period. In order to engage students, and meet the demands of national and state standards. Educators have to be multifaceted in their instructional planning. Therefore, the science curriculum has to be multifaceted as well. I believe that in order for science to be taught effectively, inquiry based instruction has to be at the forefront of today’s science teaching. Inquiry based learning allows students to think through problems, and ask questions, and discover answers on their own. This approach allows students to learn new content with the teacher acting as more of a facilitator than through teaching via direct instruction which is a key point of the NSTA’s position on teaching and curriculum.

Why Do I Teach?:
Teaching for me is not a career but a lifelong passion that allows me to work with young people and share with them the things that I find interesting in the world. I think that one of the most rewarding things about teaching science is students get very excited about what we are learning in school and then they want to go home and replicate or discuss what we did in class. In my opinion teaching is about stimulating student interest in a subject and helping to nurture that interest throughout his or her academic career.
