Class Description:
Gifted Reading and Language Arts class in a Title I school where 99% of the students receive a free or reduced lunch, and are of African American decent from an inner city neighborhood.
Position:
Teacher of the Gifted
Needs:
A Smart Board (I no longer have one in my classroom) and 10 Ipod Touch (Ipods) to be used in the following ways: 1) increase reading readiness, 2) as a class podcasting system, 3) as a listening center for downloadable Ebooks and Audiobooks, 4) to access internet at home (none of the students have computers at home), 5) to access internet in the classroom (only four very "OLD"computers in the classroom), 6) to use for Google Earth projects, and other research projects, etc...
My Philosophy:
All children should have equal access to a high level of education no matter what their background, creed, race, etc...It should not be based on your family's income.

About Me:
I'm originally from the Caribbean, immigrated to the US as a child and attended elementary, high school and college in New Jersey, and later graduate school in New York. Worked as a Legislative Aide for 2 years, as a Program Assistant at the Rockefeller Foundation for 3 years and as a development consultant for 2 years before changing my career to become a teacher.
College and Degrees:
BA from Rutgers University in Political Science and Spanish Literature, 1997; MIA from Columbia University in Human Rights and Humanitarian Affairs, 2007; Specialist Degree from University of Florida, 2010
