Forestbrook Middle School
Hometown:
Stone Mountain
Class Information:
Room Number: Portable 11
Students per Class: 120
Class Description:
Yearbook: We are in charge of everything that requires digital editing, graphic design, and journalistic details. We create the yearbook, school literary magazine, school annual summary report, newsletter, 8th grade slide show, etc. Creative Writing: Let me take you back to kindergarden. Do you remember when your school projects were enjoyable? You would spend hours creating a masterpeice and you would proudly bring it home to see it displayed on the fridge. Over your educational years, written projects became less authentic and, well, boring. This class strives to bring writing back to what it used to be....an exhilerating creative outlet. We write for authentic (real) purposes to express ourselves and discover who we are and how we tick.
Position:
Yearbook, Writing, and Mock Trial
Needs:
Yearbook: Digital cameras, tripods, and such are a daily need. Dreams???? A Mac :) The photography and digital editing software available on a Mac is amazing. I would love to teach Mac to my kids. Writing: I would love to have some software that allowed my Spanish speaking students to convert their creative works into English and vice versa. Computers to type written work on is always a bonus.
My Philosophy:
A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove . . . . but the world maybe different because I was important in the life of a child. -- Kathy Davis

About Me:
I've been married to my best friend for close to 8 years. We're doing our best to raise two beautiful boys. Too be honest, I wonder who's raising who. Harley, the oldest, just turned eight - and he's a total handful. He's learning how to play the piano and is a Wolfe in Cub Scouts. Miles, our six year old, already knows how to play up the cuteness for all it's worth. He's the singer of the two - and is constantly seranading us! I live my life for my boys, and I don't know what I would do without them. I feel so blessed to have the opportunity to provide my family with a stable home that is full of love (and a lot of noise... I'm the only female in the house after all). I attempt to inspire the youth of our generation as a middle school Creative Writing teacher - - with a little bit of yearbook and Mock Trial thrown into the mix to keep my creative juices flowing. I entered the teaching profession almost 5 years ago, and have since realized, that my students have as much, if not more, to teach me than I could ever hope to teach them. They inspire me. I will forever be grateful for the students who have entered my classroom, life, and heart. I've learned to take risks, relax, and live life.

Why Do I Teach?:
I fought being a teacher for ten years after I graduated. My mother, two aunts, and grandmother are all retired teachers. Hearing their battle stories, I grew up swearing I'd never be an educator. What a waste of ten years. I teach because I love it. I am inspired every day by the young people who enter my classroom. Teaching is as much about learning as it is about imparting knowledge. I teach because helping others grow, learn, and discover their own paths in life is the most rewarding career in the world.
