St Peter School
Hometown:
Baton Rouge, LA
Class Information:
Room Number: Pre-K
Students per Class: 9
Class Description:
We are a very small school (about 125 students Pre-K through 8th grades). I have nine students in my class (four boys and five girls). One thing about teaching the little ones, is that life is never dull.
Position:
Teacher/Tech Coord
Needs:
Being a very small school, we really need newer computers and educational software to go with them.
My Philosophy:
I want to share my joy of learning with my students. I want them to have the best learning experiences that I can provide. I am very hands on. I like to get in there and get my hands dirty.
Personal Information:
About Me:
I grew up in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana area, but in 2002, I moved to be closer to my Dad's side of the family anout 50 miles SW of Lafayette, LA in a very small town called Gueydan. And I love it. I have a part-time job working at one of the locally owned and opperated rice mills in town. Which is very interesting for a former city girl.
College and Degrees:
I earned my degree in 1994 from Southeastern Louisiana University, but I never went into the classroom. Once I moved, a teaching position just fell into my lap. I now know what I had been missing for so many years.
Activities:
One of the many new things I have done since moving to a small town is help in our community. I work with the local Chamber of Commerce to help put on our family Christmas activities. (This year, I fried 144 Snicker candy bars). I also have helped with our community Trick or Treating activities. These are all things I never would have been involved in if I was still in B.R.
Favorite Books:
Right now, I am really into Young Adult fiction. I just finished the "Twilight " series. I have also read the entire "Harry Potter" series. I try to never go anywhere without a book.
Interests:
I love to read. I am also enjoying learning about farming (I work part-time and live on a rice farm). I have gotten to do so many unusual things since I have been on the farm. I have ridden in the combine when they were cutting rice, I have gone crawfishing in the crawfish ponds on the farm and I am learning everything about processing, bagging, and shipping out rice and other rice products.
Employment History:
While I was in school, I held various on-campus jobs. My favorite was working in the foreign language lab. It was really interesting because I have never taken a foreign language. After graduation, I went to work for a professional photo processing lab. I worked there until I moved to Gueydan. I was looking for a job and I began babysitting for someone who was subbing at St. Peter School. They were looking for someone to sub half a day for the last two weeks of school. That was the Spring of 2003 and as they say, the rest is history. I have been t St. Peter's ever since. I also have worked in Church-run and private daycares.
Why Do I Teach?:
I have always loved working with children. I have wanted to be a teacher since I was little. I remember playing school with my friends when we were growing up.
