Epson PowerLite LCD Projector
Single Unit Why I need this:
Our school only has two projectors available for sign out to both the district office and the entire building. This makes it difficult to incorporate the media rich lessons I would like into my classroom. My students deserve exposure to the multimedia world outside of our classroom doors!

Class Description:
Our students reside in a low income district where they do not have the financial ability to access services needed to better their education. Most do not have access to a computer or the Internet other than from school. Generally, our district operates at just under 80% of total students who qualify for a free or reduced lunch. Additionally, our students live in a rural area which limits their ability to obtain resources. The nearest major city (Tucson) is over 70 miles away. Students rarely make trips to Tucson due to their limited family incomes. Due to financial restrictions, our school district has difficulty providing textbooks for every student, which further hinders the learning process. Materials are frequently purchased secondhand from wealthier districts, and materials are often out of date. Due to funding issues, Tombstone High School’s media programs have been inconsistent. In school year 2006-2007, the Tombstone Unified School District elected to hire Carl Utehardt as our new superintendent. Under his leadership, a renewed focus on elective courses at the High School was instituted. Journalism, in the form of a yearlong course, on the four by four block schedule, was reinstated. The In addition to studying a journalism curriculum, the focus of the course includes publication of a school yearbook through Lifetouch, publishing weekly articles in the Sierra Vista Herald, and the publication of a school newspaper. The school district has funded costs associated with newspaper publishing and yearbook production. In addition, three digital cameras and USB drives were purchased. There is currently no additional budget for curriculum for the class. The instructor has attempted to create a curriculum with textbook samples, internet research, and purchasing materials on her own. There are major gaps within the current curriculum. Interpretation of media, digital photography methods and types, and Journalism Ethics are two areas that could be further developed in the curriculum.

Needs:
My classroom desperately needs a high quality digital camera, and a digital projector. In addition, a smart board would add to the quality of my classroom environment.
