My students, who all have learning or emotional disabilities, are placed in my classrom at an alternative school in lieu of expulsion. Most have long histories of behavior problems and they have typically not been successful in school. This is a high energy group that learns through hands on activities rather than the traditional textbook and lecture format. They are inspired by technology and the opportunity to create.
Position:
special ed teacher
Needs:
We have 4 classroom computers badly in need of upgrades. We have one hand held video camera, but lack 1)the hardware to burn CDs or DVDs 2)the software to produce videos. We also need a tripod. I often use my personal digital camera to photograph our activities. We can produce slide shows using powerpoint, but we often run short of ink to print pictures.
My Philosophy:
I believe ALL chidren can learn and become productive citizens. We (teachers, citizens, community members, parents, all of us) have a responsibility to reach and teach even our most difficult students because, like our best and brightest students, our most challenging students are also our future.
