Community Christian School
Hometown:
Melbourne, FL
Class Information:
Students per Class: 150
Class Description:
Community Christian School is an independent K-12 school. We are supported through tuition and donations. Almost half of our student population is on tuition assistance. This means that we depend on contributions and donations to help us provide the best we can for our students.
Position:
Program Development Coordinator
Needs:
Community Christian School is in need of a complete computer lab for our students. In this technological world, all students need education and access to computers. In order to set up a small lab, and outfit our teachers with up-to-date computers we estimate that we will need about $10,000, or the donation of 10 student computers and 20 staff computers. We are a small school and pride ourselves on our student/ teacher ratios. We are fortunate to have excellent teachers that work for low wages, but give 150% to our students. As we go through our re-accreditation process with the Association of Christian School International, we recognize that we need to progress toward our goal of a computer lab for our students.
My Philosophy:
Everyone can learn. Given the right environment, support and understanding, all children can do great things. It is our responsibility as educators to provide our students with the tools they need, and help them develop into the best they can be!
Personal Information:
About Me:
I am a military "brat!" I grew up in a family with four sisters, and absolutely loved traveling and living in different places. I attended 11 different schools from K-12 grade, it was incredible! I saw and did so many things that most people never get to do. I believe that solidified in me a desire to share with children all the wonderful things the world has to offer, and the idea that no matter who you are, you were made to do great things! I am now married, with one daughter, a wonderful Son-in-Law, and the cutest grandson ever! He is my joy, and the next Gerber baby - I'm sure of it!

I love being outside in my garden. Family is very important to me, I am constantly at games, swim meets, competitions and gatherings with my sisters and their families. I have always been active in church(Sunday School, VBS, Youth Group, Bible study). Currentlly, my husband is suffering with terminal cancer, so most of my time is spent caretaking. I support the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, and strive to be a Star Supporter each year, as well as, supporting local cancer center walks and other efforts.
Favorite Books:
Most of my very favorite books are Children's Books. I enjoy picture books, but am also an avid reader of adult fiction and non-fiction. I usually have 3 or 4 books going at a time, because I also am a Life-long Learner and am always finding new interests that I must read up on. I like to share The Gift of Nothing by Patrick McDonnell.
Favorite Quotes:
"A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." Jesus in the book of John 13:34
Interests:
Gardening, baking, family, anything outside
Employment History:
I began my work with children when I was in High School. I started as a teacher's aide in first grade and worked in the school office during my senior year. While in college I worked in a preschool with 2 year olds. Eventually, I earned a certificate as a Montessori Teacher in Miami, FL where I worked with preschool and kindergarten. I went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and have taught every grade except for 5th. Later, our church preschool needed a director, so I completed the additional course work to obtain a Florida Director's Credential. Most recently, I have worked as an Elementary Coordinator, and now in Program Development and Marketing at CCS.
Why Do I Teach?:
From the time I was a little girl, I knew I would teach. I love children, they offer a perspective on the world that is refreshing and fun. I'm daily amazed at the thoughts and ideas that children have. It gives me hope for the future, knowing that all people have creative minds, as well as, special gifts and talents that will make the world a good place to live. I also, have a heart for children who don't come from ideal circumstances. These children have the same brillant thoughts and ideas, but often don't have the support they need to become successful. I strive to give these students the same advantages in the classroom, so that they can see that everyone has important things to offer.
