Class Information:
Room Number: 509
Students per Class: 46
Class Description:
Our school is tightly connected to the community, so it is like teaching in one big family. Our family needs a little help though. I have 46 bright kids in the WINGS program, but very little financial help to teach them. We live in a rural community in South Georgia, and we have a lot of heart and support, but we don't have a lot of money. We would be grateful for any donations, and I can promise you, our kids would use the materials!
Position:
teacher
Needs:
Today, technology should be available to all children. We have computers, but not a lot of extras. We would love to have a mobile digital camera unit or a podcasting unit. My students could really excel in science with the science bundle or the speech bundle. We would even be thrilled with 6 advanced spelling and grammar programs to use in my classroom. In our classroom, across the curriculum is the key with an emphasis in writing, so we could use almost any of the products available. Thank you for your help!
Personal Information:
About Me:
I've been teaching for 22 years and I think this has been one of my favorite years. I love teaching writing because you can intergrate it with everything else. In my spare time, I enjoy writing, swimming, and being a Mom of three.
College and Degrees:
I was graduated from a small liberal arts college, Presbyterian College. Then, I headed back to the North Georgia mountains and completed my Master's Degree at North Georgia College.
Activities:
I sponsor Science Fair, Spelling Bee, and Literay Fair at my school.
Favorite Books:
My favorite classic has got to be Jane Eyre simply because that was the first one I ever read. Now, I enjoy reading lighter material like Sue Grafton.
Favorite Quotes:
"Don't let anyone steal your joy!" "Some people can have a sack of flour under one arm and a pound of bacon under the other and still grumble."
Interests:
I love technology! I enjoy learning about the computer. Swimming is my pick of sports to do. Football is my pick of sports to watch. I love to read a good book that absorbs me.
Employment History:
I have taught gifted most of my career, even though I began at a center for severely behavior disordered students. Language is my thing and I am lucky my teaching partner is a math wizard.
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach to see that spark in my children's eyes that means, "I can see the light! I understand!" I love watching children grow. The older I get the more I appreciate each child's gifts. Today, children have a lot more to deal with than I did. I think some of them are absolutely amazing in their abilty to survive and grow.
