Class Description:
Last year was my first year in the classroom. I had 150 7-8 graders. I had the time of my life! I am back for round 2 (hopefully of many more to come) and this year I will be teaching all three grades and though it is a daunting task, I am extremely excited at the chance!
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
I don't think there is technology that I do not need. While my school is slowly taking strides towards better technology throughout the school, being a science teacher I am the last to receive it. The school has to pull up their standardized test scores in math and ELA so they are given first priority. This past year I used my laptop and an older projector to use power-point and the internet to engage students in science, and it worked! I went to a technology conference and learned a lot about interactive whiteboard technology and I would really like to get a system for my room so that my students can join me in using the technology. I would also love working computers so that my students could work in small groups to do independent research.
My Philosophy:
All students CAN learn. By learning science not only will they become more fascinated with the world around them but more importantly, science teaches critical thinking skills that will last them a lifetime. Those kind of lessons are invaluable.

Why Do I Teach?:
This is the easiest question: For the Kids!! Many people call middle school teachers crazy. I will admit we are, but crazy in love with our students. The middle school years are extremely vital in a child's development. It is during this time they need positive role models that show them what they can be. I love being that person for the students. Students that come from high poverty situations also need structure in life and school is the best place for them to get this. I love being there for them every morning, offer them a little stability in their crazy world. Also, I live for the "ah-ha" moment. It is when the light bulb finally turns on an all of the pieces fall into place. There is not a better feeling in this world.
