About Me:
My Name is Diane Bondurant. I am originally from Whitehall, Virginia. I graduated from Longwood University with a certification to teach in K-12 Physical Education. After meeting my husband, I gave up teaching and became a stay at home mom for 13 years. We moved to North Carolina from the mountains of West Virginia 8 years ago to enjoy the natural beauty of the ocean a little more. I live in the small town of Bridgeton with my Husband of 19 years and our 3 daughters. We spend the majority of our free time at soccer fields where our 2 youngest girls play at the competitive level and my husband coaches or at the theatre where our oldest loves to be on stage. She will be attending ECU in the fall of this year and majoring in Theatre Education. Yikes! College tuition for 2! When at home, I love the outdoors and spending time outside at our pond with my family, my poodle “Waffles” and black lab “Buster”. As my youngest daughter entered Kindergarten, I too decided it was time to get back in the classroom. I am currently teaching at Bridgeton Elementary in New Bern, NC as the Technology Facilitator. This is my 5th year in this role. We are a school of 500 students and have implemented the IMPACT Model. I work closely with the media coordinator and classroom teachers to collaboratively plan hands on authentic tasks. I enrolled at Eastern Carolina to pursue a MAEd in Instructional Technology to challenge myself and to find out everything I can to help myself, the staff I work with, and the students of BES use technology in the elementary classroom setting. I want to spread the passion that I feel for learning with technology to everyone I come in contact with. It is my personal goal to improve the use of technology for instruction at Bridgeton making it more effective. I hope to take the information that I am learning at ECU and become a more efficient facilitator. With the use of the Impact Model, I want to facilitate the teachers and students in using technology daily to improve the way they teach and learn, and ultimately prepare them for their digital future. I am proud to say that we were chosen as the 2008 Impact Model School for NC.
Why Do I Teach?:
We are all life long learners. I believe that teachers should strive to better themselves and learn new and creative ways to inspire and motivate the youth of today to learn. Computers and other technologies are having greater influence on our daily lives-at home, at work, in the community, and in schools. Whether using Word Processing to complete a writing assignment, a spreadsheet to display mathematical data, the internet to find information for a research paper, e-mail to correspond with a pen pal, or multimedia for a presentation, students must acquire the technological skills for their digital and information-basedfuture, while meeting their educational needs of today. These skills become building blocks with which to meet the challenges our students will face later in both their personal and professional lives. To become technologically proficient, the student must develop the skills over time through integrated activities in all content areas K-12. Teachers must create and teach with hands-on authentic tasks incorporating technology thru these inquiry based lessons. This type of cooperative learning environment promotes a love for learning for all of those involved. Everyone reaps the reward!
