Rue Elementary School
Hometown:
Council Bluffs, IA
Class Information:
Students per Class: 90
Class Description:
I work with individuals and small groups of students. I work in an average of 3 buildings each year. I travel from school to school, and work in a variety of locations, including general education classrooms, special education classrooms and my own small room.
Position:
Speech-Language Pathologist
Needs:
I am in dire need of technology to work with about one-third (30) students who are on the autism spectrum. An I-Pad would allow me to learn the technology that a growing number of my students use as their voice. This technology has given many of my students a voice for the first time, and I need to have access to my own device in order to instruct them how to use the I-Pad. I am at a tremendous disadvantage because I only have access to my students' individual I-Pads for a brief period, and no time to learn how to navigate it and to learn apps. My students would benefit tremendously because I am unable to help them adequately without my own I-Pad.
My Philosophy:
Individuals on the autism spectrum have so much to give and at long last, through this amazing technology, they are finding a voice! I am so grateful that this technology exists and is adding so much to the lives of so many individuals with special needs. I also work with a number of apraxic students and other children who desperately need electronic voice output devices.
