Mrs. Jean Kruse
Add Me as a Friend!
Yeokum Middle School
Class Information:
Room Number: 1205
Students per Class: 12-26
Class Description:
I am a class-within-a-classteacher and also have a resource class which is entitled Reading in the Content Fields. I use this class as a introductory platform for my students when we begin new content material in their core classes, as well as a study skills class to assist students in developing strategies to be successful not only in an educational environment, but also in a social setting.
Position:
Special Education Teacher
Needs:
Dealing with students with special needs is difficult because I am juggling 12 different learning styles working on 8-10 different assignments or projects at one time. I have students who are non-readers and students who are fairly fluent; several of my students are non-writers! I cannot begin to think about how this has happened. It is the situation I am faced with every day. I want my students to be successful and their frustration of not being able to read a textbook saddens me and weighs heavily on my heart. It is frustrating to me to try to assist these students when the technology I need is not available. I would love to have technology which would assist me in differentiating my instruction. A computer and a program which could interpret text to language would be SO beneficial for my non-readers. This would enable them to be more independent and allow them ownership in their learning process. A Smart Board and projector with a laptop to allow for access to interactive websites which accompany their math and science texts would be a dream! Even a simple keyboarding program to allow my students to develop basic keyboarding skills to develop life skills which they will need throughout their education as well as during their life.
Personal Information:
College and Degrees:
I received my Bachelors in Science in Elementary Education (and a minor in special education) from the University of Central Missouri. I am currently persuing my Masters in Literacy Education at the University of Central Missouri.
Activities:
I love to read! I also enjoy spending time with my family at my in-laws' lake home, or hanging out with my family at my parents' farm in northwestern Pennsylvania.
Favorite Quotes:
It takes a village to raise a child.
Why Do I Teach?:
I want to remain young and I am reliving my youth vicariously through my students. I'm hoping to pass on snippets of wisdom and advice which will make my students lives a bit easier, a bit less confusing. And I want my students to always, always remember to smile... no matter what. I try to lead by example.
