Class Description:
I teach a guidance class for 6 weeks to all 6th grade students in my building we cover careers, conflict mediation, anger/stress management, multiple intelligences, diversity, community service and personal health (abstinance/healthychoices) This class allows me to reach all the students in my building and helps me to discover the at-risk students as well as the potential leaders. We do great projects to teach others about what we have discovered (to teach is to learn theory)

Needs:
I would love to have several digital cameras to capture their presentations and to allow them to explore their visual intelligences. I wish I could have a music box of some sort when we work on multiple intelligences to do a lesson in music and stress management or music and brain development. This would also help with diversity lesson plans. I would love to have a better overhead machine as I love to use pictures to show everything from how the brain works when we're mad- to triangle conflicts and how communication works. I really need a color printer for my ovrehead presentations andto help my children create their community service info-mercials on topics we discuss.

About Me:
A 10 year in the trenches middle school guidance counselor who has spent her life working with kids and loving it! Prior to being a counselor, I worked for 6 years as a medical social worker for a home nursing agency and 3 years before that as a child abuse investigator, my first 3 years out of college found me working as a Juvenile probation officer. My husband and I live on a "C" farm- Children, Cattle, Corn, Chickens, and Cats.

Why Do I Teach?:
I know that every child has potential, maybe not for greatness but to affect the lives of others around them as a worker, a parent, a spouse or a friend. Each person will grow up and remember someone who made a difference in their life, one who made them think about their future and about how they will treat others in this world. I would like their memories of me to be...Mrs. Wilson?..oh yeah she's the one who cared, who made us create and made me think of others and of my future. She helped me through one of the most difficult times of my life (adolescense)
