Life Science follows a biology-based curriculum.
PhysicalScience touches on Chemistry, Physics, and Astronomy.
Position:
science teacher
Needs:
All labs/activities come out of my pocket, so any lab/activity supplies are greatly appreciated. Since the severe budget cuts, all supplies are needed. Supplies that get my students excited are the best!!!
My Philosophy:
I teach the lower-level science classes. I feel these are the students that need to be motivated and excited about education the most. Most teachers that teach this level have a difficult time with the behaviors and motivation that the students display. I love them, and have found how easy it is to get them excited by doing projects and hands-on activities.
Personal Information:
About Me:
This is my first year teaching. I have always loved science-- pretty much everything about the subject! I love to show my students how just about everything in this world can be related back to science! I love to get them excited to come to school, and excited to learn.
College and Degrees:
B.A. in Biology/ CSUSB
M.A. in Education/ University of Phoenix
Favorite Books:
Stiff by Mary Roach, Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold
Favorite Quotes:
"Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers" Socrates, (469 B.C- 399 B.C.)
I love this quote. Everyone always says how horrible teenagers are, but really it's no different then it was in all of time! Even Socrates thought so! HA!
Interests:
I love to garden, hike-- pretty much anything outdoors. I especially love my job!
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because nothing makes me happier than giving the gift of education to students! I was known as the "pretty sister". Not the "smart sister". My first teacher that made me realize I was intelligent gave me such an incredible gift. Making a positive impact on a child can change the course of their lives! Sometimes the little encouragement they receive from a teacher, can open doors they never knew existed. I had a teacher, Mrs. Luce, in high that changed my life. She taught English. I hated English, but I loved her. She never judged me, and at the same time encouraged me to be a good person. She was a light in my day when things were very dark in my life. She also gave me the encouragement that I could do something MORE with my life than what I was doing. She changed me forever. Knowing the power a teacher can have over a child's life should never be taken lightly!
