South Amboy Elementary School
Hometown:
Manalapan, New Jersey
Class Information:
Room Number: N/A
Students per Class: 625
Class Description:
As a recently-hired principal, I work collaboratively with over eighty staff members and 625 students in grades PreK through 6th grade. While we are not an "affluent" district like many other central New Jersey districts, we are rich with hope and promise for the future. We work very hard on a shoestring budget, holding together a network and infra-structure with band-aids and scotch tape. The adult members of our community work far too hard, for far too little, to be able to provide all of the tools that teachers and students need to be successful in the global economy of the 21st century.
Position:
Principal
Needs:
My goal is to provide AT LEAST 300 iPod Touch-es or iPhones for student and staff use. Using these devices and all of the free software applications and inexpensive solutions available at the itunes store and through itunes university, the staff and I hope to make transformative learning the operative word at our school. We will be able to fund but a small pilot. It will, of course, be successful. In the short run, I would like to purchase 1 macbook pro 17", one color laser printer, several wireless USB digital recorders, five iPod Touch mp3 players (and so much more); and several other document cameras, projectors and digital camcorders, to pilot the school of the future, using the technology of today...ALL DONATIONS are welcome
My Philosophy:
To teach is to touch a life...At the same time, students must become global collaborators with students of all races and faiths. It is my belief that, through technology, and the power of something as simple, elegant, and inexpensive as a telephone (iphone computer) we can end the digital divide that splits us from our neighboring brothers and sisters in more more affluent towns. It can also truly unite us as one people so that we can end the forces that would divide us and unite as one people...pangaea all over again
