In the 2008-09 school year, we will have a service learning class at Henry County High School. This group of 25 students will create service projects based on high school curriculum. There entire classroom focus will be to make positive changes in our school and our community. Projects are expected to range from anti-bullying and anti-drug programs for elementary students to a Renaissance Fair and a health fair for the community.
Position:
Academy Coordinator
Needs:
The students will need to document these projects. Digital cameras, digital video cameras, and editing software would be ideal in allowing the students to share their work with other students, schools, and community partners. Presentation is key! We want them to be proud of their accomplishments and have documentation of their projects to take with them as part of college admissions.
My Philosophy:
When students learn to give back to the community early in life, they learn that they can make a difference. When we as educators go a step further and allow them to show their positive impact to other people, we are truly creating citizens who can affect change throughout life. Planting seeds of service in our students will quickly turn our communities into gardens of compassion.
