Class Description:
7th Grade Science Class. Curriculum covers a very broad range of science topics per the TEKS. Students received school issued laptops for the first time this year. I have changed my approach to instruction to a technology rich instructional scenario in which students read, see, and interact with science materials via the internet.

Needs:
I need a wireless method to project on the screen, I currently have to be "docked". Also, would like an interactive white board so that students could more readily interact and demonstrate to the whole class. I would like to have a classroom set of cameras and a set of headphones with microphones so that students can create science demonstrations in windows movie maker and post on the district website.
My Philosophy:
Today's student speaks a different language that those of a few years ago. Everything they do involves some form of technology. As a teacher, I need to "speak their language" in order to teach them. By integrating technology into my everyday instruction, providing lesson "maps" to guide students through instructional material via their computers, and providing my students direction to interactive demonstrations and learning sites, my students become more invested in their own learning and take ownership in their instruction.

Activities:
I currently sponsor the school Girl's Club, coach UIL Oral Reading and UIL Impromptu Speaking, and work at the student football games. I am a "teacher technologist" on our campus (we have 4 per campus) and provide other teachers with assistance integrating technology, assistance with equipment, and short in-service topics on various topics. I am a campus representative on our District Educational Improvement Committee.

Why Do I Teach?:
Because I love to learn and I love kids. In teaching I get to impart my love of learning into my students. My favorite thing is the "aha" moment when one of my students gets something they were struggling with.
