Shadowlawn Elementary
Hometown:
Green Cove Springs
Class Information:
Room Number: 509
Class Description:
"Home of the Falcons!"
Position:
Teacher
Needs:
I would like to have digital cameras for the students in my class to use for them to express their thoughts and ideas and develop their technological skills.
My Philosophy:
I believe in a student centered approach to learning. I feel that students learn best through doing and am always on the lookout for new ways to get my students using technology. I think digital photography is a fun way to introduce students to technology standards and get them involved in constructivist learning activities that will help them to develop their visual literacy skills. This combined with the fact that children learn better when concepts are tied to images makes digital photography a natural starting point for technology integration. I also strongly believe that students need to develop visual literacy skills in order to be successful in today's advancing technological world.
Personal Information:
College and Degrees:
I received me Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of North Florida in the Spring of 2001. I will graduate in the Spring of 2009 with a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on "Teaching, Learning, and Facilitating Change with Educational Technology" from the University of Florida.
Employment History:
I began my teaching career at Lake Asbury Elementary as a first grade teacher in August of 2001 and remained in that position until June of 2008. I am now very excited to be opening Shadowlawn Elementary, where I will also be a first grade teacher and team leader.
Why Do I Teach?:
I teach because I love my students and want to help them develop the emotional and academic skills necessary to make a positive mark on our world.
