Class Description:
I teach 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade band and all band lessons. I also teach sections of 7th grade general music.
Position:
Band Director / General Music
Needs:
My reason for joining digital wish is to wish for a display device that i can use with my students in my classroom. I am currently teaching using my 13 inch laptop screen for students to read music with software such as Smart Music, web applications, as well as a myriad of other computer based tasks. I am wishing for anything better than my current setup - it is just unfair to the students. My ultimate wish would be for a SMART board - however a projector would be equally effective.
My Philosophy:
I believe students deserve the best in their education. How can we be the best educators if we are not using the technologies our students will be using in their futures. I remember using Microsoft Word for the first time in school. That introduction stream lined me into being comfortable with a computer. I use my laptop daily and any donation would be used daily - I promise it would not just "sit there." I would of course invite classes of other disciplines into my classroom to use this technology. I have an undergraduate degree in Music Education from Hofstra University and am currently completing my Masters degree in Music Education
Activities:
I love playing music, using computers, and composing music.
Employment History:
This is my first teaching job as I just graduated in 2007.
Why Do I Teach?:
Because it is the most important thing I could think to do with my life.
