I have been teaching four years at a high-poverty school. I am currently teaching a 1st and 2nd grade combination class. I have 16 first graders and 8 second graders. My second grade students are all English Language Learners. They are making tremendous progress in reading and writing. The students are self-disciplined and excited to learn despite their socioeconomic background!
Position:
second grade teacher
Needs:
SMART BOARD!
A SMART Board would benefit all my students. Its presence in my classroom would be an interactive way for the children to learn new concepts, and review past objectives. Given the high percentage of English Language Learners in my classroom, a SMART Board would be an extremely visual way for students to retain information. I often desire to show students engaging videos and websites, but it is too difficult for 24 students to see a small computer screen. A SMART Board in my classroom would eliminate the problem of students not being able to see the computer screen. Their achievement in all subject areas would soar!
My Philosophy:
My classroom promotes respect and responsibility. Students learn how to take charge of their learning. I develop a community of caring learners who are not afraid to take risks, and enjoy the challenge of inquiry-based learning.
