This lesson can serve as a reinforcement or review of the parts of speech. Students should know the basic definitions and uses of nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs before beginning this lesson.

1. Using Kid Pix, each student should create a Paint picture for nouns. Encourage them to look for stamps and stickers of people, places, and things. Most advanced students can make a separate picture for each (person, place, thing). Students may also type words that are nouns using the ABC tool.

2. Have each student record his or her own voice explaining what a noun is (something like "a noun is a person, place, or thing" works). Save the Nouns picture.

3. Now have each student make a picture about verbs. The animations are great items to use for this picture, since they actually show action. Again, students might also write verbs with the ABC tool. Record each students' voice explaining what a verb is. Save the picture to the same folder as the Nouns picture.

4. Similarly, have students draw pictures and record their voices about adjectives. Use the paintbrush tools to draw small areas that can be described (red, blue, fuzzy, big, small, icy, straight, crooked, colorful, etc.) and/or have students write descriptive words. Save the picture to the same folder as the other pictures.

5. Repeat step 4 with adverbs. The animations work well here too. Save the picture to the same folder as the others.

6. Use the Kid Pix slide show tool to put all the pictures together into a slide show. Students can add transitions, sounds, and other cool effects. Have them save the slide show with the pictures.

7. Using a projector, show each students' slide show to the class. The kids love to see all the pictures and hear each others' voices. We also did this on a parent showcase day, and the parents also loved seeing these shows.

Older/advanced students could make additional pictures for other or more specific parts of speech (prepositions, pronouns, proper nouns, etc.). Students who finish their pictures early could make an introduction slide for their show.

Cross-Curriculum Ideas
Find nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs from specific subject areas. For example, require students to use only science words in the slide show.
