1. Midway through reading Macbeth, students are introduced to video production concepts - in cross-curricular effort with Desktop Publishing course.
2. Students learn principles of marketing concepts, specifically film production styles and techniques.
3. Students work in groups to produce quality movie trailers for a hypothetical Macbeth Hollywood production.
4. Students use existing school software to create and edit their movies - thanks to the flip camera technology allowing all students to play a role in production.
5. Using web cam technology currently in place, students share their projects across school classrooms, and with our sister school in China.
6. Process is then replicated across grade levels, including EC courses, as a way to engage students deeply with both the text, and multimedia technologies.
Comments
With a background in PR and marketing, I'm always looking for ways to build relevance, and real world skills. Digital Literacy is an emerging trend, and I'd love to involve my students with film production - in addition to other coursework we do such as writing for the web.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
This project is a perfect fit for our desktop publishing courses as well, and the concept can be replicated by our entire English department.
Follow-Up
The uses for these cameras in my English class are virtually endless. I foresee three major media projects a semester, and loaning the cameras out to other English / History teachers when my students are not using them.
