A variety of classroom strategies will be used to meet the goals of this lesson. Discussion will be used initially to present the essential questions. After a good discussion is being developed, I will change gears and mention to them that we are going to use Excel to solve some problems and analyze data using baseball statistics. We will reconvene back to the classroom, *note my classroom is the computer lab*. Once back in the classroom, I will direct the students to check their email, here it will have the lesson introduction, which we talked about at the baseball field. Also, the student will have the chance to review the rubric and ask any questions they may have. Travis Paulsen Lesson Plan 4 KSP-608 M&M’s – Intro to Excel 10/19/2006 We will then start with Activity 1, and then move into Activity 2. Some classroom management issues that will need to be addressed as the students will be in a seating chart and will be seated accordingly. The student will need to check their gaggle email first thing before class begins as to check for any additional materials (i.e. taking notes in MS Word, or facing forward watching a demonstration, or discussion starters we will utilize in class that day. The classroom materials I will be using will be a baseball bat and a baseball. I will bring these items from home and have them in my classroom prior to the lesson starting. Also, we will meet out on the school baseball field (provided it is nice out and not being used by the PE dept, otherwise we will meet in the classroom. I will make note of this information by sending my students an email that they will check before class ends the day before.). Students will follow the guidelines set forth in the district handbook when traveling from the classroom to the baseball field. They will respect other classes that are in session and arrive at the baseball field fully prepared as they would be in the regular classroom. Any students that would be arriving late due to band or choir lesson, coming to school from a doctor’s appointment, or just being tardy would know to go to the baseball field as I will have sent them an email, also a note will be posted on the classroom door. This will give the students a on-hands real life approach to understanding where a baseball game is played and will have a note of reference when I am describing where Right field is and where the ShortStop plays. Students won’t have a group project for these individual lessons. Assessments on this lesson will be according to the attached rubric that students will receive as an email attachment. They will be responsible in reviewing the information as to how they are going to be graded. For this lesson plan, the rubric will be attached in the dropbox as an excel file. Same rules will apply for this lesson as other course lessons and rubrics, and the district policy on homework and grading. |
