Students will create a 5 minute podcast using Audacity (free). Students will download background music and create/record a theme song/jingle, conduct interviews and use sound effects.
The first 15 seconds:
Download background music from www.freeplaymusic.com. Write and record a theme song/jingle using Audacity. Don't record over the original music clip. You will be using that for the last 15 seconds to sign off.
The next 30 seconds:
Introduction. This should include introducing yourself, and the topics you will be covering. You could also make up a stage name and/or radio call letters.
The next 60 seconds:
Human Interest story (define the term for students). Suggestions: Recreate/tell a story you read or saw in the news.
The next 2 minutes (120 seconds):
Current Issue (define the term for students). Suggestions: Debate over items in the Student Handbook or issues occurring at school; overall issues like bullying, etc.; a public service announcement topic like texting while driving, alcohol or drug or tobacco use; a public service announcement topic that promotes like reading, community service, disease awareness. (This segment should include at least one interview).
The next 30 seconds:
Recap. Briefly summarized what listeners may have missed if they are just tuning in.
The next 15 seconds:
Teaser (define the term for students). Highlight topics and items of future podcasts.
The last 15 seconds:
Original background music clip without lyrics.

Preparation lessons:
Copyright issues and concerns.
Listening, selecting, and downloading background music.
Opening, importing, recording, cutting, moving, saving and exporting in Audacity.
