1. Students will use rafters, trusses, load bearing walls, roofs, floor and ceiling joists that will meet the needs for a family home or a livestock structure.
2. Students will be able to relate the use of scale drawings that they have done to the actual structures they are building .
3. Students will develop an understanding of basic building concepts of their future home and have the basic skills to play an active role in that process.
4 The teacher will supply all building materials to be used in the project for 8 groups of 3 students.
5 The students, with the teacher's help cut the minitur pieces of lumber (2x4, 2x6, 2x12) to 1/2" to 1' scale.
6. The students will assemble the components starting with the footer and foundation, to the plates and belting, to the floor joists, subfloor, stud walls, ceiling joists, rafters by themselves adhering to their scale drawings.
7 Students will use headers and jacks for their doors and windows.
8. Students have the option of leaving their model home in the dry in stage or finishing the outside wall components and roof materials.
9. Students will fix their model home on a 4x4 piece of plywood and electrify their home with led bulbs and a 9 volt battery.
10. Students will then complete the project by fixing a yard and driveway, and landscaping the entire16 sq. ft. surface.
11. Students have kept up with their time and material cost and will be able to figure cost per square foot for their model.
