Images of Patriotism

Introduce the lesson by talking about how music is used to inspire people and express feelings. Instruct the students to brainstorm a list of patriotic songs. Divide the students into groups of 2 or 3 and let each group select a patiotic song. Using the internet, music books, and other resources, locate the lyrics of the patriotic songs. Have the students read the lyrics aloud and talk about images within the song. Let the students illustrate each stanza of the song and color the illustrations. Once the illustrations are complete, add the lyrics to the illustration. Scan the images into the computer and use a slide show software to create a slide show for each patriotic song. Use the internet to find audio files for the patriotic songs. Be sure that students do not use files with legal restrictions.Attach the sound file for each song and set the timings so that the slide show is in time with the music.
