Introduce students to Windows Moviemaker and demonstrate how to add video, still pictures and music to a moviemaker project. Students will receive a guided handout of instructions, along with the words to Billy Joel's hit song, "We Didn't Start the Fire". Students will then begin to search for pictures and video clips representing the lyrics of the song which were great events in history. They may copy the same clips for the chorus each time it is played. The song is fast paced and will require a great deal of skill to get the timings of the pictures/videos to go along with the music. Students will then present their videos to the class. This lesson is a precursor to their next project, creating their own music video using Moviemaker.
Comments
This lesson plan is an excellent introduction to movie making. It requires that students get "up close and personal" with timing issues and dealing with video, still and audio combinations
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
This lesson is packed with 20th Century history. Students learn that their generation has made mistakes, but so have previous generations. The important thing is to learn from them.
Follow-Up
Students will create their own music video in Moviemaker, choosing their own song, and working solo, instead of in pairs.
