At The World Journalism Preparatory School, the student portfolio and studio is managed through advisories with a period of Studio for lab work. Each student will have an advisor to guide them through all aspects of developing into a responsible, intelligent and compassionate adults. We are all responsible for all of our learning. Advisory will also provide a hub for understanding the foundations of journalism as presented in the projects and writing from and through the content areas.

• Advisory focus for Year One -- “Everyone has a story.” This focus will be on our stories as human beings. Who are we? Where are we headed? Who are the people around us and what are our responsibilities to them? How do we tell our stories? How are our stories told by others? Students will use photography to capture the essence of who they are.

• Advisory focus for Year Two – “There are two sides to every story.” Where does controversy enter into the stories we tell ourselves, our peers, our parents, authorities, the world? How do we know we’re getting the full story? How does one choose sides? Must one choose sides? Students will use photography to capture the essence of others- peers, parents, etc.

• Advisory focus for Year Three -- “What are stories of the world?” How do we evaluate the stories that the world knows of us? How do we know about them? How accurate are the pictures we have? Students will use photography to capture stories of the world.

• Advisory focus for Year Four -- “What are perspectives?” How does point of view affect my story, your story, our stories? How do the media differ from one another? What is the business of media and how does that business affect our views of ourselves and the world? Ninth grade advisory will begin to operate the major publications: Newspaper, Yearbook, Literary Magazine, Electronic News Gathering (ENG), Documentary...
Students will use photography to capture perspective, point of view, and other journalistic angles through photography.

• Advisory focus for Year Five -- “How do issues of race, class, and gender reflect the voices of the culture?” Where are those voices found? What voices are silent? What are the effects of silenced voices? What are the effects of privileged voices? Publications work continues. Students will use photography to accompany polished written pieces focusing on voice.
