Grade 5
School: Herman Hesse Elementary School, Savannah, GA
Planned By: Caroline Wilson
Original Author: Caroline Wilson, Savannah
Every Friday morning, 5th graders will develop a news program to be aired over the school TV's in lieu of morning announcements over the intercom. During the week, the class will pick 2 reporters, certain students to take pictures and videos of events throughout the week, other students to edit the video footage and select which photos should be chosen for the Friday morning slideshow. 5th graders will work together on coming up with stories to cover throughout the week. (I.e: school skating party, who's leading the Accelerated Reader points, science fair, etc). Also, there will be an interactive trivia question. An education question will be formulated for each grade level, and the answers must be written down on a piece of paper and turned in to the "mystery guess box". A winner is chosen at the end of the day. Whoever has the correct answer for his or her grade level is called to the office to win a prize. Other topics covered on Bear TV are: lunch menu, weekend weather report, upcoming events, etc. The 5th students are not only given the chance to stand out on these Fridays, but it gives them a sense of pride in their accomplishments after completing a project in which they have put in hard work. This also gives students the chance to learn how to use technology such as digital editing of pictures and video footage.
Follow-Up
Each week the students will feed off the last video segment
