Keywords: photojournals
Subject(s): English/Language Arts, Social Studies, Technology, Photography, Information Skills
Grade 1
School: Dixon Elementary School, Dixon, MO
Planned By: Tammy Allen
Original Author: Tammy Allen, Dixon
Objective: Students will be involved in publishing a photojournal of our community's businesses.
Description: Students will discuss goods and services. We will then take a "field trip" to town and students will be involved in taking pictures of the various places of business our town has to offer. Students will return to school to create a photojournal of the businesses. Students will complete facts about the business and whether it provides a good or service. Students will be engaged in the writing process (draft, edit, revise, and publishing). Digital cameras work best because you can immediately print the picture. A colored copier is nice because it makes the journal look better. Students will then share the book with the businesses in a author's tea--students will read the page they wrote followed by punch and cookies. This lesson plan helps bridge the gap between school and community.
