CMS Newsletter

Students will conduct partner interviews using interview techniques, the 5w's, organize the information into main idea, facts, details, reasons, and use direct quotations.

Students will learn photography skills and how a picture should relate to the story. They will take practice photos and write captions.

The CMS News Department will be set up and news assignments will be given. The categories will be school news, sports, feature stories, lunch menu, upcoming events.

Students will set up appointments for interviews and take photos pretaining to the story.

Layout design will be discussed and students will review and critque various newsletters from the community. Then they will decide on a layout design.

Each student will type and post their story into the newsletter layout. Students will conduct peer edits on the computer with final editing by the teacher/publisher.

The CMS Newsletter will be published in print and on the school website.

OBJECTIVE: Students will analyze a newsletter and demonstrate their knowledge of expository writing by selecting important facts to create and publish (assess) an original piece that is organized, contains relevant information for a specific audience by using a newsletter layout and a writing style that focuses on the six writing traits (ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence variety, and conventions).
