School: Mabel Paine Elementary School, Yorba Linda, CA
Planned By: Sean Williams
Original Author: Sean Williams, Yorba Linda
Each year I take my students on a multi day tour of our local community in order for them to learn the rich history of Yorba Linda. We visit from 10-20 different sites in the city including several historical landmarks as well as City Hall and a walking tour of our downtown area. We have been doing this for several years and the students create a scrapbook afterward to show what they have learned by writing a short paragraph about each place we visit. This project covers many skills however I have noticed the students are ready to use more technology. I would like to be able to provide all the students with a digital camera to use in pairs (34 students=17 cameras)for recording digital images. We could then crop/touch-up the images and put them into PowerPoint presentations for the students to share with the class. The students I work with use computers throughout the school year and this would be a great culminating activity.
