To develop student awareness of a given topic within their immediate world, students will engage in digital scavenger hunts related to specific curriculum points using digital cameras. An example of one scavenger hunt topic is geometric shapes.

In pairs (sharing one camera), students will be asked to find one of each 3D (solid) shape introduced and one of each 2D (plane) shape introduced in their school environment. When a shape is found, students will take a photo of it. After all 10 shapes are found, students will upload their pictures onto an invdividual computer. students will create a document with a page for each shape. Each page will have the shape name at the top and two copies of each photo: one in color and one in black and white. On the black and white photo, students will use electronic drawing tools within the software to outline the shape. Completed documents will be made into books.

Other topic ideas for scavenger hunts include patterns, fractions, community helpers, or environmental concerns.
