Ms. Laura Dewald
Add Me as a Friend!
Virginia L Murray Elem School
Class Information:
Room Number: 6
Students per Class: 24
Class Description:
We are a dynamic and diverse community of learners!! Murray is a small, very community- oriented school. It is a wonderful place to teach and learn! I love to use technology in a variety of ways to make learning engaging and authentic, but much of the technology used by students now is my personal equipment (low in quality, slightly outdated and becoming worn from frequent use).
Position:
Classroom Teacher
Needs:
Digital cameras are our most often used learning tools which we don't have school access to! A high quality digital SLR camera for teacher use and a classroom set of student cameras would have limitless potential for learning experiences. I use my personal camera to create videos of student skits, student literacy projects, school programs, special visitors, and more. Students have used movie making software to edit and publish these videos and very creative and educational ways! Last year, I purchased a classroom set of disposable cameras, which students used on many projects with fantastic response. A classroom set of digital cameras would serve the same purpose, but in a much more student-friendly and long-term economical way.
My Philosophy:
Children thrive in environments that are nurturing, structured, and trusting. Technology provides opportunities for children to be creative in ways that students were not able to be in the past. As we prepare students to enter a rapidly changing work landscape, we have a responsibility to expose them to many types of technology which they can use actively and creatively, as opposed to just passively and receptively (as one does when watching movies or watching a teacher use technology).
