1.Introduce the lesson by discussing how hurricanes are formed and the different stages of a hurricane. Assign students to read the book Hurricane! by Cynthia Nicolson.

2. Explain to students that they will be given an opportunity to play the role of a person in a small village as Hurricane Ivan approaches. Put the scenarios in a hat and have students draw out their character.

3. Have students do research on hurricanes and create 10 questions that could be asked to the person they are representing. Questions should be based on information that was gathered regarding hurricane and their potential for damage. Questions and answers will be written on the graphic organizer provided.

4. Once students have completed and answered their questions, they will be sent to the Media Center podcasting lab to create and produce their podcast with the news reporter. As students complete their portion of the podcast, they will return to the classroom and the remaining students will take their place until all students have created a podcast.

5. Once all students have completed the podcast, the news reporter will work with the Integration Specialist to combine the podcasts in to an iMovie for the class to watch.
