1. Present the students with the basic overview of the project 2. Ask students to identify the key characteristics to good storybooks 3. Ask students to brainstorm what computer programs might be used to create their story books Possible answers here at All Saints: Art: KidPix, Microsoft Paint, Adobe Photoshop Story: Microsoft Power Point or Publisher 4. Remind students to use each other as resources. If someone else has solved a problem, ask them for help. 5. Start working
Instructor Note: This lesson works great with one session (35 - 50 minutes) allotted to begin project. The project can then become a longer term project with students allowed to work on project in 15 - 25 minute increments. For example, students have typing exercises here at school that they do for the first 15 minutes of class and then can use the remain 25 minutes for their story book projects. Total time needed: 180- 300 minutes (depending on student speed and teacher modifications to lesson plan)
Student Requirements: Must Do: • Create 10+ pages for the book • Create a cover page listing author and year • Create art in an outside program (like KidPix or Paint) and insert it into the book – limit of three copy+paste items from the internet. Fully acceptable to open internet based file in Paint or KidPix and manipulate it • Include page #’s • Use a variety of font sizes, colors, types • Proofread and Edit your work
May Do: • Include sounds, animations, transitions (if in Power Point) • Include patterns, borders and design elements (in Publisher) • Use digital photos (including ones you have taken)

Cross-Curriculum Ideas |
1. Brainstorm drawing and illustration ideas in art class. Possibly allow one key image developed in art class to be scanned and used in project.
2. Develop the story in language arts class. Formalize the written aspects of the story to teach writing and story-telling skills
3. Involve digital photography in the creation of the art for the book |
