Turn to the art of Roy Lichtenstein and discuss how he uses
art and design elements to create his art work.
Discuss primary colors, half tones, portraiture, line and shape.

Objective- Students will use the stlye of Roy Lichtenstein to create their own image.

A. Use the classroom digital camera to photograph images that will be used for the assignment.
To start-
1. Take a portrait with a suitable expression and pose. Make sure image resolution is 300 ppi.
2. Switch mode to grayscale
3. Click Image> Adjustments>Threshold. Slide bar until the right contrast is achieved. If you loose the sides of the face or important detail, go back an outline what needs to be outlined with the black pencil tool.
4. Always work each addition on a separate layer! Select paint and paint section. Adjust opacity until you feel it is right. Go over sections with the black pencil to give it more of that “Roy Lichtenstein” look. Continue until all sections are complete. After each color, use the color halftone tool found in filters. (Filters>Pixelate >Color Halftone).Experiment with the different halftone styles. Changing the numbers, changes the halftone.
5. After the photo is complete, paint in a thought bubble. Use the type key in the tool box to create the subject’s thoughts. Raster type if it needs to be adjusted according to the size of the bubble. To rasterize- Click- layer>Rasterize>Type

1. Halftone and Type must be present
2. Idea must be clever and UNIQUE!
3. Be neat and careful with your work.
4. Mat should be cut clean and neat.
