Keywords: layout, newspaper, writing
Subject(s): English/Language Arts, Technology, Social Skills, Journalism, Photography
Grades K through 8
School: Healy Elementary School, Chicago, IL
Planned By: Nicole Hauser
Original Author: Nicole Hauser, Chicago
Students will write and submit articles about various activities happening at Healy School. Articles will be compiled, along with digital photos, to create a Healy Newspaper that is geared towards the students of the school. We currently distribute a newsletter to parents, but it is written by administration and does not include many stories about what is happening in the classrooms.

A student written newspaper would allow the students to share what they are doing in their classroom. Student reporters would also relay information to the student body about our athletic teams and various other information that is happening at our school. The paper would contain a variety of columns to cover character education lessons, sports, projects, art, and any other important items students wanted to share with the student body.

All articles would be subject to approval for appropriate content and language.
Comments
This is a new project that I would love to implement at Healy School. As I said, we currently have a newsletter but not a school paper that allows students to contribute any articles.
