The students will explore the United States and one other country of their choosing through websites and print. They will compose a written and visual description of the location, climate, culture, and economic standards of the country. They will find prices for everyday items such as clothing, food, housing, and transportation in the country of their selection. The students will notate these prices and draw illustrations of these products as they are represented in the country that they have chosen.
The students will then use the information that they have gathered to compare their country to the United States. In the comparison, the students will create conversion charts to show the differences in currency, price, units, and measurements.
They will then create comparison charts to show the differences in cultures, climate, world location, and economic standing. The students will use Microsoft office suite programs to create their charts, graphs, and written descriptions. Drawings and illustrations that have been constructed will be uploaded to their presentations with the use of a document reader. The students will present the written description, charts, graphs, pictures, and other material that they have researched and created in a PowerPoint presentation to the class.
Comments
This would be a wonderful lesson to integrade different disciplines into an area of study. It would also provide a powerful avenue for students to explore other cultures and economies.
Follow-Up
The students could connect their presentations to create a school resource to be used to teach other students about cultures all around the world. The students could present this connected presentation to students in younger grades to help them realize the importance of learning about other cultures and their differences.
