Students will create a PowerPoint presentation outlining why a family disaster plan is important and what should be included in the plan. Students will show the presentation to other students and to family members at an open house. The PowerPoint will include digital photos. Sample student photos may show smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, students seeking shelter from a tornado and creating an emergency contact list.

Students will identify the hazards that could occur in their community and will create handouts (mini-posters) evaluating them using Microsoft Word and digital photos. The handouts (mini-posters) will be distributed to their family and friends.

Students will use a digital camera to document items needed in a disaster supply kit. They will include this in a PowerPoint and will present to other students and family members. Print-outs can be altered into checklists.
