Keywords: 21st Century Learning Skills (Technology integrated), English, Math, Science, Social Studies and Technology
Subject(s): Math, English/Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Technology, Podcasting
Grades 9 through 12
School: Mitchell High School, Colorado Spgs, CO
Planned By: Ruth Wolf
Original Author: Ruth Wolf, Colorado Spgs
Set up a mentor (a Library Technology Educator) with at least 5 mentees (regular ed teachers). Give the mentor a laptop, digital camera, and projector. Give the mentees each a laptop to be used as long as they remain at the school. Set up 2 staff development days at the beginning of school and in the spring at the end of school, as well as 3 hour meetings every 3 weeks. During these times the Library Tecnology Educator would work with the teachers in not only showing them how to use the equipment, but also helping the teachers to write the use of the technology into their curriculum. Then, the LTE would work with the kids in the teacher's classrooms to help with the instruction. The program would also include how to use blogs, wikis, and podcasting to enhance students' education. It would be based on the 21st Century Learning Skills that students need to have to work in the world after they graduate from high school.
At the end of the school year, we will evaluate how things went, and ask the mentees if they will become mentors the following year for other teachers in the building.
Comments
The key to integrating technology into a building is to have quality staff development. This plan would allow for that, even though the implementation might take awhile.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
During the staff development, we will talk about how the content area teachers can work together on projects, etc. to cross curricula.
Follow-Up
The second year, the mentees can get additional training as the year progresses.
