Our class will write and email invitations to various people inviting them to be a guest reader. Students will have the opportunity to hear each guest read their favorite Dr Seuss book. We will have between 20 and 30 readers.

Students will use the digital camera to take photographs of each reader. After all the readers have finished the pictures will be uploaded to the computer and students, working in pairs, will create an Animoto slide show which will be uploaded to the teachers blog so parents, students and other staff can enjoy.

Students will use Microsoft Office 2007 to write thank you letters to each reader. The thank you letters must demonstrate proper form for writing a friendly letter, font choice, color of text, spell check and how to save to an external storage (flash drive).

Students will use a Flip video camera to interview the staff asking two questions.
1. What is your favorite Dr Seuss book?
2. Who is your favorite Dr Seuss character?
Students will work in teams with one student being the video operator and one being the interviewer. Then they will switch rolls.
After all interviews are complete student teams will work with the teacher to upload the individual videos to the computer then compile the videos into one complete video which will be uploaded to Rocket Tube.

Students will complete two webquests for this unit:
The first webquest is on Dr Seuss the man. Students will search the web to answer questions about Dr Seuss. Students will then use the information they have learned to make a presentation using Power Point which will be shared with the class. Each presentation mush include at least five slides.

The second webquest is on Dr Seuss's literature. Students will each be assigned five books by Dr Seuss to research using the web. Students will need to find out the date each book was published and then create a timeline using google tools. Students will also have to chose one of the five books they are assigned to design a brochure for using Microsoft Publisher. Each brochure must include at least one text box and at least one clip art.

Students will write online blog book reviews for each book read by going to a link on the teacher's blog.

Dr Seuss plays with words by creating words that do not exist to rhyme with words that do exist. Students will create a word to rhyme with a word they know. The new word must be their own word. Students will write a dictionary entry for their word. The entry must include pronunciation, definition, and demonstration of use of the word in a sentence. Students will use Microsoft Office to complete this activity. Words will be published and students will be encouraged to try to incorporate the words into conversation.

Our class will participate in the Read Around the Planet project where our class will be paired with another class and through the distance learning lab we will be connected to complete an activity centered on the works of Dr Seuss.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of alliteration by creating a wordle word cloud using their name as the beginning.

Students will be exposed to various forms of literature. In addition to real books from the library students will have several books electronically read to them through Kidthing. Students will also be required to read at least on book on an IPad and one book on an IPod.

Students will also have a book read to them via Skype. Students will have an opportunity to interact with the reader.

Comments
This project will require students to work cooperatively to attain their common goal. Students will be in-charge of many of their own decisions with the teacher keeping them in the right direction.
