Opening Lesson
• Students are working on the American Revolution in their classroom for social studies. I wanted to incorporate what they are working on and have them learn new computer techniques and programs. This week I will have them make and play the Battleship game in Excel for more practice.

Activities – Day One
1. Demonstrate on the Smartboard how we are going to set up the game and the basic parts of Excel. I will give them the hand out to follow along with while I demonstrate how to set up the game in Excel.
2. All students will be given a laptop computer
3. Students will open the computer and sign-in using the proper password
5. Student’s will open Microsoft Excel and read the hand-outs to set up their spreadsheets and place their battleships in the correct location.
6. Go through the correct procedures to same document, then close down computers.

Activities – Day Two
1. On the SmartBoard, I will demonstrate how the students will play Battleship with one another.
2. Students will be sitting with a partner across from one another. The laptops will be back-to-back.
3. Students will log into the laptops and open their Battleship Excel spreadsheet. Students will have a copy of Directions for Battleship. They will then play the game with one another. The first player to sink all of the opponents ships is the winner.

Comments
This is a fun way for the students to learn about the Excel program. This can be a fairly difficult program to learn. They learn the basics and then are able to see their results in a fun manner.
