Note: This lesson plan would be part of the daily schedule during the school year and will require extensive modeling and practice using and caring for the technology.

During Readers Workshop, students are expected to read for a certain amount of time (varies depending on time of year and level of independence of child) independently. During this time, they will use Flip cameras on tripods to video themselves reading a self-chosen text from their book boxes which contain independent reading material. Students will then replay the video for themselves noting whether they were successful at reading the text fluently. (Note: students have been previously taught what reading fluently looks and sounds like and strategies they can use to make it sound better)

Students may then replay the recorded video of text reading and listen for areas of improvement. After listening, a student may re-record the reading of the book to improve fluency.

Modifications:
Students may work in partners helping each other make text sound more fluent.
Student may work in hallway or another space if easily distracted.

Extensions:
Students/Teachers may observe each others' videos and make thoughtful suggestions on ways to phrase text to help improve fluency.

Assessment:
The classroom teacher/ELL teacher/Reading Intervention Specialist may view videos of students to help guide future instruction of reading fluently in continuous text.
