Lesson 1: What do you know about Weather?

Lesson 2: What is your favorite Weather? Hot? Warm? Cold? What clothes do you wear in different weather situations? Students draw on post its. Teacher makes a graph with their post its. Teachers lead a math discussion related to the Post it graph.

Lesson 3: Use your five senses and observe the weather.Students dictate to a chart, and record in their own weather journals their 5 senses observations about weather.

Lesson 4: Learn how to record the Weather. Student learn about Cloud cover, Precipitation and Wind Speed.

Lesson 5: Make a wind speed flag to record wind speed. Students talk about the Beaufort Wind Speed chart and talk about different types of weather from no wind to hurricane force wind.

Lesson 6: Learn how to use a thermometer to record the weather. Students make a thermometer and use thermometers to learn what is hot and cold on a Fahrenheit scale thermometer. They measure inside and outside temperatures. They practice counting by twos and tens. They compare the Fahrenheit and Centigrade/Celsius scale.

Lesson 7: Use a digital camera or Video Flip Camera to record your weather observations.

1. Students will make a A - Z Weather dictionary with weather related words.
2. Students will use their video camera to add to a podcast to their Keynote project about weather.
3. Students will use their digital camera to add photos about weather to their Keynote project about weather.
4. This will be a bilingual project with English and Japanese weather related vocabulary.

Lesson 8: Measure Rainfall. Place plastic clear cups in a courtyard away from wind. Student tape a unifix cube scale on the side of their cups and leave it out for a week to measure rainfall. They record their observations in their weather journal.

Lesson 9: Water cycle: Students make several water cycle wheels to study Accumulation, Evaporation, Condensation and Precipitation. They learn the water cycle song.

Lesson 10: Study Puddles. Put 3 different food coloring into three pie tins with water. Put the tins in different parts of the classroom and observe. Record your observations in your "My Puddle" booklet. Where did the water go?

Lesson 11: What kind of clothing keeps you dry? Test fleece, cotton, wool and nylon to see which fabric repels water the best. Stretch it over the top of a water cup with a rubber band. Make predictions. Do the experiment as a classroom observation or in small groups.
