School: Unity Elementary School, Lima, OH
Planned By: Kimberly Schmenk-Langhals
Original Author: Kimberly Schmenk-Langhals, Lima
Divide students into teams of 4 to 6 students tell them they are the Movie Making Experts for the school and they need to create a "Be Bully Free" Persuasive Movie Message that will be broadcasted at our school in the form of a PSA or Commercial.

Teams brainstorm ways to illustrate the Bully Prevention Rules through the use of skits and stories.

Teams story map the ideas into a story sequence that will only be 1 to 2 minutes long with video edited and published.

Teams use Flip cameras to shoot the video footage around the school. Students will trade moving making jobs (Actors, Director, Camera A (Main Story) and Camera B (B-roll footage) for each of the 4 Bully Rules.

Teams will download the video into computers and use the Flip Video editing software to orgainze the movie into the timeline.

When the story sequence matches the plan, students will test the time and cut footage accordingly for timelimits.

After this, teams will choice background music and adjust the actors voice volume and then add transitions or effects if needed.

Finally, students will publish a mini, Be Bully Free" Persuasive Movie and share with the class for critiquing and voting like at a movie review.

If chosen as one of the top three presented, the movie will be burned to DVD and featured for a schoolwide broadcast during Morning Announcements.
Comments
This is a great opportunity for students to tell other students the "Be Bully Free" message in their own creative styles using the emerging popular medium of video. In our socirty it's important to encourage Bully Prevention to detour violence in our world.
Cross-Curriculum Ideas
This can connect with Language Arts class where the pre-writing and story boarding can occur and with Technology class where the video editing process can occur. The film making can be incorporated with Life Skills, Social Skills, or Social Studies classes.
Follow-Up
Make a illustrated movie version of the Pledge of Alligance to broadcast on Morning Announcements.
