Genres

Teacher will introduce the different types of genres to the students. The students will then be shown examples of books for each type of genre. Teacher will ask students to find unique characteristics of each genre and write their findings on a sheet of paper. Students will then share with the class their findings and as a class a list will be created for each genre and their unique characteristics. Once the genres have been reviewed the students will be seperated into groups. In each group the students will be assigned a type of genre. The students will then assign a student to be the news report while the other members of the group pretend to be characters from their assigned genre. once all the groups have completed their filming, the class as a whole will work on editing their video. The videos will then be shown to all the classes in their grade level. This will not only be entertaining but also allows for the students to learn the material in a manner that they will retain and recall the information.
