School: Turner Early Learning Center , Kansas City, KS
Planned By: Teressa Fogarty
Original Author: Teressa Fogarty, Kansas City
Begin by setting up several different stations that incorporate the story theme of the week. These would include: a storyboard lab – using props to retell the story, events, characters, props, and settings, Smartboard interactive lessons – Select one that uses sequencing of events or sorting to strengthen the learning concept of ordering/sequencing/retelling/remembering from a Smartboard compatible or iPad compatible website such as Elementary Zone, iPad apps, PBS, Sesame Street, Education Station, or teacher made

Language Arts Theme for the week could be “Little Red Hen” stories. Each day read a different version of this popular story or view a video or telling on the Smartboard. In the storyboard lab, students will use reproductions of characters, scenery, and props to retell their version of the story putting the pieces in sequence on a felt storyboard. With their lab partner they will take turns videoing and taking sequential still pictures of their retelling of the story heard or creating their own version.

Once the video or still pictures are created we will upload them to the computer and incorporate it to the Smartboard. Using still clips students will help the teacher create an interactive sequencing lesson about their story. Videos will be shared at parent/teacher conferences to show the depth of each student’s abilities.
