We are allowing kids to bring in devices such as Android tablets, IPads, IPods, Kindle Fire, etc. We want to encourage cross platform use so if it's PC, Android, Apple, just bring it in. The teachers are allowing the devices in the classroom, we are working on project based learning so the teachers are arranging the classrooms in groups (if needed) and making an effort to incorporate devices of all kinds into the research and the discussion. This process just started in March 2012 and we are noticing the number of kids who simply don't have a device and how many we need to purchase so there are enough to go around. The kids have been 'Googling' items during class, we are using QR codes for a lot of interesting things. Our bring your own device policy expands to the primary grades (1-3) in April 2012. We have a 'buddy' system that we use several times a year for Right To Read Week and other things, we are going to do a buddy hookup so the little kids can work with the big kids to show them what they can do with various devices. If we can get enough for everyone in a particular class, we intend to use apps and turn the devices into 'clickers' that we can use for surveys, etc. We are doing a fundraiser on April 20th and again on June 16th.
